Eugene Peterson has observed the “Blessed, Broken & Given” pattern and writes, “This is the shape of the communion table. This is the shape of the Gospel. This is the shape of the Christian life.” Nothing is more ordinary than bread. But in the scripture, bread was not ordinary at all! It fell from heaven and was multiplied to feed 5,000, Jesus called Himself the “Bread of Life,” and bread was a central part of the table where Christ inaugurated His Kingdom. So it is with our lives – Christ takes the ordinary and in our brokenness, He blesses it and makes it something to be given away to others.

In this series, we will study the table of the Lord and the statements Jesus made about the bread, and seek to apply them to our lives. In doing so, we will draw closer to Christ and each other, experience healing grace for our brokenness, and awaken to a sense of gospel mission that is unique to each one of us.
