Christmas is a popular, familiar holiday and yet most of the world doesn’t recognize who and what it is truly about. It is often completely disconnected from what it is supposed to represent. This isn’t just true generally but for most of us it is also true personally. The longer you’ve lived, the more Christmases you’ve lived through and the more Christmas songs you’ve heard. We become familiar with every aspect of it and as the old saying goes “familiarity breeds contempt.” In other words, if you think you know someone or something well, you can easily become bored and stop valuing that person or thing. And yet just because something is familiar does not mean it is any less important or significant.
