The topic of gender and identity is one that has become increasingly prevalent in our society, with many different views and opinions being expressed on this issue. As Christians, we believe that the Bible provides a clear and trustworthy guide for understanding our gender and identity and the roles that we were created to fulfill. It is with great compassion and care that we seek to share our understanding of the biblical view on this matter, in the hopes that all people might find the truth that sets them free.
It is important to remember that the topic of gender and identity can be very sensitive and personal for many people. As Christians, we must approach this topic with great sensitivity, recognizing that every person is created in God’s image and deserving of our love and respect. We must be careful not to judge or condemn those who hold different views, but rather seek to share the Truth in love and humility.
Furthermore, we must make it a high priority to equip the church to engage in this cultural conversation with great wisdom, compassion, and care. We can do this by providing resources and training that help Christians to better understand the biblical view on this matter, and to communicate that view in a loving and respectful way. Our goal is not to be “right” or to just win an argument, but rather to see society find hope in Jesus Christ.
It is with these introductory thoughts that we share our biblical position paper on gender identity. This document represents the official stance of the Mannahouse Eldership and is the foundation in which we frame in our pastoral care and action steps in addressing this complex topic.
